BEF Backs Mamma Social’s Growth

Mamma Social Co secures £60,000 investment from Business Enterprise Fund to expand support for mothers across the UK.

Mamma Social Co, a Peterlee-based business that provides supports, advice and guidance to new mothers across the UK, has secured £70,000 from Business Enterprise Fund (BEF). The investment includes a £45,000 loan from BEF’s £1m fund for the North East backed by Ceniarth and a £25,000 Start Up Loan from the British Business Bank.

The business was started in 2022 by Kayleigh Laverick, a mother of two who found herself feeling isolated and lonely after her second child. Struggling with life changes, Kayleigh reached out to local mothers to arrange a meetup and walk. The next day, Kayleigh met with 9 other mums at, Castle Eden Dene. This event confirmed to Kayleigh that new mothers needed more support and led to the formation of Mamma Social Co which offers a free membership programme.

Following its launch, Mamma Social Co supported mums with weekly Talks and Walks along with Walks and Plays which were hosted by over 50 individual parent leads. Today, the business supports over 17,000 members across the UK with regular opportunities to walk, talk and play together. Mamma Social Co also manages email newsletters which support members and provide third parties with opportunities to connect with them.

This activity is complemented by a weekly podcast focused on motherhood, womanhood, and general adult life. Hosted by Kayleigh and Lauren Causer, Mamma Social – The Podcast has grown to be one of the top parenting podcasts.

The BEF investment which was supported by Chris McGill, Associate Investment Manager and Lee Vickers, Senior Investment Manager will help the business expand its staffing and initiate a new marketing strategy to grow its membership, brand partnerships and income. Income is expected to grow from £288,000 to £1.7 million over the next three years. In addition, the investment will help create 6 jobs and safeguard 6 jobs.

Kayleigh Laverick, founder of Mamma Social Co said: “We started Mamma Social Co to bring mothers together and provide a space where they could feel supported, understood, and less isolated. What began as a simple walk with local mums has grown into something far beyond what I ever imagined.
