BEF supports European Microfinance Day 2018

Microfinance benefits, individuals, business and communities across the region and beyond.

On the 20th October, BEF and the European microfinance sector will celebrate the 4th European Microfinance Day, an initiative co-organised by the European Microfinance Network (EMN) and the Microfinance Centre (MFC).

The European Microfinance Day exists to raise awareness of the impact that Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) such as BEF have on the financial and social inclusion of European citizens.

For those who are excluded from traditional banking, access to microcredit (a financial service) and non-financial services such as mentoring delivers an exponential effect on the beneficiaries’ situation and society.

In the last year, BEF delivered £8.8m of microfinance investment and over 4,000 hours of support to SME clients across the region. This investment and support added £39m of economic benefit to the region, helped start 179 new businesses, and created or safeguarded 985 jobs.

BEF Head of Investment, Simon Jackson, said: “We have supported more businesses than ever and seen an increase in the impact we have made. That’s all thanks to hard work, good funding streams, and the different view we take towards the businesses and communities we serve. We are here to help the region’s businesses grow and flourish in ways that other lenders do not.”
