BEF is a well-established social enterprise financial services business (a community development finance institution), offering a range of financial products to both micro B2B and some B2C customers. The business has been steadily growing and is wishing to bring on board an experienced operational leader to review and streamline existing processes to facilitate further business growth.

Main function of job

This new role has been created to facilitate the growth of the business. The role will involve reviewing and tweaking existing processes, and where appropriate introducing new systems and managing teams of people (both office and field based with a significant call centre presence). The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the organisation and form part of the senior management team, reporting directly to the CEO.

The role will involve directing the operational aspects of the company to ensure that its business objectives are met efficiently and effectively. This may become a board position and will require a technological understanding of delivering financial services, as well as all aspects of delivering and improving the financial services within a regulated framework.

The right candidate will have a good grasp of the latest and most relevant IT solutions as well as have a practical detailed understanding of providing financial services within the SME landscape. They will have significant experience within the financial services sector, good understanding of the regulatory requirements of a regulated firm (particularly the Senior managers certification regime), as well as good commercial acumen and relevant experience of managing complex contracts and stakeholder relationships within the financial services space.

Main responsibilities

  • To contribute to corporate strategy to ensure that the company achieves its short and long-term objectives.
  • To work collaboratively with the compliance manager to adopt, adapt and implement relevant procedures to comply with the regulatory framework and achieve the most effective processes for the firm.
  • To work with the Senior management team, to assist in developing and controlling operational budgets to promote profitability and ensure the company has all the resources required to meet its objectives within agreed financial parameters.
  • To collaborate with the HR Manager on aspects of people engagement and management and develop systems and processes to ensure safe and healthy working environments across all company locations and for staff operating remotely
  • To Manage the support functions across the organisation including Marketing and Admin.
  • To maintain working relationships with all other members of the senior management team to ensure effective co-ordination of all company activities in support of corporate objectives.
  • To evaluate overall company performance by gathering, analysing and interpreting data and key metrics.
  • To act as the company’s main adviser on all issues relating to operational functions and keep abreast of latest developments to ensure that the company maintains its competitive position.
  • To engage with and oversee the investment and non-financial administrative staff to ensure that they are motivated and trained to carry out their responsibilities to achieve operational targets
  • To develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that core operational functions achieve their business objectives.
  • To develop and control operational budgets to promote profitability and ensure the company has all the resources required to meet its objectives within the agreed financial parameters.
  • To oversee the management the company’s IT and integrated software packages to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of services

Management Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the CEO and working within the senior management team.
  • Management of the Administration and contract management function of the business
  • Management of the Marketing Team
  • You will work with closely with Sales and Finance and Human Resources
  • You will have oversight of the Compliance staff but the compliance function will remain the responsibility of the CEO
  • Direct and control key supplier relationships.
