Wool and truly thriving: How a Start Up Loan helped Pretty Knits Wool Shop flourish
For Hannah Hazledine-Herd, owning Pretty Knits Wool Shop in Darlington was once a dream. Today, but now thanks to two Start Up Loans, secured with the support of the Business Enterprise Fund (BEF), that dream is a thriving reality.
Hannah had worked at the shop for five months, helping customers choose yarn, knitting patterns, and haberdashery supplies. When the opportunity arose to buy the business, she knew she wanted to take it to the next level. But without funding, securing the shop and expanding its services would be out of reach.
Hannah secured a five-figure Start Up Loan, which gave her the financial backing to take over the business, invest in stock, expand services, update machinery, promote and grow the shop’s offerings, and increase sales while attracting more customers.
The funding also helped boost Pretty Knits Wool Shop’s partnership with Lovely Laundry LTD, allowing Hannah to enhance its laundry services which previously included washing, drying, and ironing to dry cleaning too; all while continuing to serve Darlington’s knitting and crochet community.
Since receiving the Start Up Loan, Pretty Knits Wool Shop has gone from strength to strength. With a broader product range and improved services, it has become a go-to destination for craft lovers and locals in need of laundry solutions. Increased revenue has also enabled Hannah to reinvest in the business, ensuring continued growth.
"Without the Start Up Loan, I wouldn’t have been able to take over the business and grow it as I have. The funding has allowed me to offer more services, attract new customers, and build a successful business. The whole experience has been quick, easy, and incredibly supportive. Amber was great to work with!"
